Repaired Block From Australia
Broken and Repaired Block from Australia: |
Photo of interesting old block from David C. of Australia.
Broken blocks are not that unusual.
Old blocks are almost always grey cast iron and can be broken.
Modern blocks are often but not always ductile iron and very difficult to break this severely.
Bolted repairs such as this are commonly seen on swage blocks and occassionally old anvils.
The repairs usually require heavy drilling or other machining.
Straps are often used to tie parts together.
The large (5/8 to 3/4") stud in this one passes through three holes and terminates in the forth.
A lug from one of the hex shapes also had to be cut off to make a flat for the stud.
